Titre:
The strange case of the Standard Neutral Model of molecular evolution: when, what and why
Résumé:
We will investigate the model that is commonly assumed throughout population genetics and more generally molecular evolution, the so-called Standard Neutral Model. I will start by describing some of its motivations, its underlying assumptions, its forward and backward perspectives, its usage and more importantly its limit. I will then illustrate the different points by biological examples and will argue that the use of a unique reference model may obscure our ability to apprehend correctly the evolution of life.
